Good design isn’t pretty

“Good design isn’t pretty.” It’s become our mantra at POV. But what does it mean?

It doesn’t mean well-designed pieces are never beautiful. Most often, they are. But being beautiful isn’t enough. Good design should be:

  1. Clear. Our creative team of designers and writers keep things simple. Simple doesn't mean plain or boring. It means uncluttered and lucid. We never over-design to win creative awards. So your communication will inform and persuade, never confuse.
  2. Consistent. No project exists in isolation. Every piece has to fit in with your overall brand picture. POV pays close attention to details like color scheme, imagery, writing tone, paper stock and interactive functionality to deliver a consistent brand experience.
  3. Compelling. Every element is crafted to get the end result you want. Because in the end, it's not about making your communications prettier. It's about making them more effective.

To qualify as truly good design, a piece needs to achieve an intended result. Designers can create striking images that win awards but don’t meet the specified communication goals. Such efforts, in our opinion, fall short.
